Ferris finds himself back with PugHearts after his Dad became too ill to care for him.
He is a little confused and sad, but looking to find a quiet and calm setting to find love from a human again.
Ferris is a 9-year-old fawn male.
He was deeply loved and cared for until his owner couldn’t physically take care of him anymore and made the difficult decision to return his care to PugHearts.
Ferris is kennel trained and mostly house trained.
He gets along with the other dogs in the house.
He likes to find a pillow on the sofa to watch the activity of the house.
Ferris is heartworm negative and ready to continue the spoiled lifestyle to which he is accustomed!
Please consider this little man and restore the happy days he’s known with his own family!
Ferris loves to sit on or next to his people, off all ages!
He loves children!

Poppy, 12yrs, comes to PugHearts as an owner surrender.
Poppy comes in with her bonded partner Posey.
Both of these girls are amazing.
They are active and snuggly.
And each have their own personality - Poppy is sassy, bossy when she wants to eat and has the sweetest tail wag ever.
Poppy wants nothing more than to have someone to talk to and love on.
Sadly Poppy has a mass on her jaw, that is growing and not treatable.
But she enjoys every day wondering around the yard, chatting with Posey and wagging that tail in all the directions.

Ophelia comes to PugHearts from the Rio Grande valley.
She is a 8ough treatment prior to adoption.
From Ophelia's foster: Ophelia is a Velcro pug, very energetic and happy.
She loves toys, Nyla bones and plush toys, but unfortunately she has mega esophagus which can be irritated by over enthusiastic play or stress.
She loves tummy and chest rubs and she will let you know if you have not fulfilled her pet/scratch quota by pawing at your hand.
She gives kisses and is very excited most of the time.
Which has been alittle worrisome during her heart worm treatment.
The mega esophagus is manageable with elevated food and rest 20-30 mins after feeding.
Ophelia is a delightful little girl that adds a bright spot to everyday.
Medical hold and then pending adoption with his foster Mom.

Lila is a 9 yr old female that comes to PugHearts after being found wandering all alone.
She appears to have some problems with her back legs and is being monitored by the vet.
Lila is, happily, heartworm negative.
From Lila's foster: Meet Lila - our gorgeous Lila!!
She is a very happy, healthy 9 yr old that loves to play and cuddle and run - everywhere she goes!!
Lila is a special needs pug that has some neurological issues with her back legs.
We are not sure if this is due to an injury or birth - be please do not let this deter you from adopting her!!
She does not let this slow her down one bit!!
The biggest issue is elimination, as she is not always aware of pooping.
Lila does squat to urinate, but then hops about 3ft while going.
If she is leashed and you hold her, she will finish then move on.
She will also stand up when asked!
This sweet girl is a treasure and we are hoping that someone will give her a chance at a family - she deserves her own family and loves with her whole heart!

Beans is a 16 year old pug who loves 3 things: eating, sleeping, and eating again.
He came to PugHearts a tad overweight at 26 pounds, but he has shed 2 pounds so far.
He loves soft toys and is quite the character.
Beans has had successful surgery to rid him of bladder stones, so he must stay on a restrictive diet to avoid a re-occurrence.
He also has an old injury to his left eye and has no vision in it.
Beans is a sedentary fellow who is happy with a low key lifestyle.
He is happiest when he knows where you are and will especially follow you if you make your way into the kitchen....his favorite room.
Beans sleeps in his own bed and is house trained.
He gets along with other dogs and ignores the cat.
Mr.
Beans, as I refer to him, is a total sweetheart who is looking for a quiet home for his retirement years.

Hi everyone, I’m Cora Belle.
I am around 6 years old or so.
I'm a little lady.
I am very cute, sweet and special.
Yep, fell on my head and it causes me to tumble like a cheerleader, but I just get up and keep going.
Hardwood and tile floors are hard for me and I look like I’m trying to learn to ice skate and fall a lot.
Foster mom has rugs for me to walk to that help me.
Don’t worry, it is just a little thing and meds aren’t needed except for the prevention ones.
You should see me run the fence when I’m protecting the yard.
I’m looking for a forever family that doesn’t mind a girl who stumbles.
I love hugs and will be yours forever.

They were surrendered back to us recently thru no fault of their own.
Volunteers flew to retrieve these babies to get them back to us!
Now she is alone at 10 yrs old.
Now the good stuff!
She loves her humans and follow us everywhere and will give you all of her love.
She is house trained, but needs to be taken out for potty breaks on a regular basis.
She eats everything, even her vegetables.
Darby can be alpha at times but easily correctable and she loves chew toys and will collect them in her crate.

MEDICAL HOLD Tessa came to PugHearts from San Antonio back in November as a 7 week old puppy with a prolapsed rectum.
A prolapse will typically occur in puppies that haven’t been properly dewormed, causing severe diarrhea.
A purse string was put in by the vet in San Antonio prior to her transport to Houston.
What is a purse string?
Think of it as a drawstring in her rectum to hold her insides in, similar to holding the contents of a bag in place.
This is so important because the longer that the bowls are out, the more necrotic the tissue becomes.
The purse string stayed in for 2 weeks and less than 48 hours after it was out, Tessa prolapsed again.
She was rushed back to our vet to have an additional purse string.
This is when we assumed the problem was bigger than we thought and it was discovered that Tessa has no muscle tone in her rectum.
This purse string stayed in for 3 weeks, and this time she prolapsed less than 24 hours from removal.
I became quite versed in pushing her colon back inside her body every time she prolapsed, until her emergency surgery was performed the following day.
Dr. Hendrix performed a Coloplexy on Tessa, essentially pulling and tacking the colon to the abdominal wall and leaving no room for an additional prolapse to occur.
Since this surgery, we have been finding out all the additional problems Tessa has, and assume she born with this defect.
She has a total collapse of the 7th vertebrae leading into her pelvis causing nerve damage to the colon, which also gives her a funny gait and a spastic neurogenic colon.
She has the urge to poop all the time, and will posture constantly with some, little or nothing coming out.
It ends up on her, the other dogs, me and the wall on occasion.
She has to have her anal glands manually expressed on a weekly basis because her body can’t do it.
She will never be able to jump on and off the furniture or use stairs.
There’s mornings that I want to scream and cry while I’m scrubbing poop, but then I see her and everything is worth it.
We’ve treated her with prednisone and metronidazole to no avail, and we currently have her on Tylan which has helped the consistency be more formed.
She is on a strict diet of GI high energy wet food and Biome If Tessa hadn’t found her way to PugHearts, she would not be here.
There is no information on treating this condition because most dogs would have died or been euthanized.
PugHearts is fighting for Tessa and we are doing everything that we can to help her.
It’s not cheap, Her dog food is almost $80 a bag, but this little baby deserves the best.
SLPH accepts manufacturers coupons for the Hill’s Science Diet food, if you’d like to donate those at the clinic.
I had $15 worth today!
Today Tessa had her last booster.
At this point, most puppies would be ready for adoption.
Tessa is not.
We’ve concluded that Tessa might not ever be adoptable, but we also aren’t calling her hospice.
It’s unknown what Tessa might have to tackle next and with Pughearts and me as her foster, we will be ready to take on anything, but it’s not a burden we want future adopters to have to face.
Tessa is my baby.
She is spoiled rotten just like she’s suppose to be.
She spends the majority of her day being held or in my lap, and sleeps every night curled around my neck.
Please consider donating to Tessa’s care.
She deserves the world and PugHearts is going to give it to her

I first found out about Grayson from a cryptic message at the end of October.
All it said was that there is an extremely sick Frenchie in a shelter scheduled for euthanasia today that we were trying to pull him out and whether I would foster to which I said of course.
It was exactly 3 days later when I got a call from the director of the rescue.
Grayson made it to our vet and his evaluation was not good.
He had a left sided failure caused by a genetic heart issue complicated by heartworms, a completely preventable condition, and he was given a week to live.
I felt like I couldn’t breathe but I also knew this dog needed to come here.
I didn’t sleep that night.
I felt like there had to be more I could do for this dog and then it hit me – Grayson is dying and he never got to experience anything!
clearly, we will do a bucket list for him.
We took him to the beach where he tried to chase the seagulls even though he could barely walk, to a ranch where he got kissed by a wild pony, on a convertible ride to get a puppachino, we cooked him steak, he met and peed on a giant tortoise, had a professional photoshoot and visited Bayou Bend Gardens.
Before we knew it, a week turned into two, then three and before we knew it he had people overseas reaching out about his story.
People were asking about heartworms and he was making a difference.
Just as we began hoping Grayson may celebrate New Year with us, an upper respiratory infection hit him with an incredible strength.
For two weeks we fought as hard as we could for him hoping his appetite would pick back up knowing well this may be it.
Grayson came to us beyond starved and he could barely pick up his tummy filled with fluid caused by his heart failure – if he ever got to the point where he couldn’t walk, we knew it would be unfair to keep it going.
And then he finally had a good day, and one after that, he got excited about meal times and I felt like I could breathe again.
As of today, Grayson got to eat Turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas both, he celebrated Mother's and Father's day, he has met endless friends and lived a life he should have had from the start.
None of this changes the fact that his condition is terminal.
When his symptoms become severe enough and he can no longer enjoy his life, we will be there to hold him as he crosses over.
But it will not be today.
This is a story of a rescue taking in a dog that will never make it out.
A dog that never stood a chance but a dog whose life has been turned around because the rescue stepped in.
His story could have ended in that shelter but it did not.
Living with Grayson for the past 2 months has taught us more than I would have ever thought a dog could.
Grayson was abused and he will pay the ultimate price yet he is not bitter at all, the opposite in fact.
He loves people and wants to be loved on all day long.
He has learned his new name within days and runs to us as fast as his body allows him to.
Having him here has made us to cherish every single day because we are not promised tomorrow.
He taught us to let go of our baggage and live in the now.
Your donations help not only dogs getting ready for adoptions but also dogs like Grayson, dogs that will live out the rest of their days in rescue.
We thank you for your support.

Murray is a winky as he is missing his left eye.
He has IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).
Murray also has a healed vertebral fracture, Spondylosis and hip dysplasia.
That being said, Murray has no idea that he should experience limitations with his activity.
He can and does do anything he wants.
He is on Rimadyl for pain and will remain on it throughout his life.
He is a sweet, loving cuddle bug.
Although Murray has his physical challenges they don’t stop him from doing anything he wants to.
He has been neutered and had his nares and soft palate done and is good to go.
He sleeps either on the couch or in a crate in the bedroom.
He uses doggie stairs well.
He loves treats and to play with toys.
He can be food aggressive so I either crate him or put him in another room to eat.
He is 90% potty trained.
He is sweet and likes to be loved on.

Edgar is an active 3-year-old Fawn Male.
He is an owner surrender through no fault of his own.
(His owner was not allowed to take him to the college dorm.)
He came to PugHearts with an injury to his eye.
Unfortunately, the eye had to be removed shortly after intake.
He will need to be neutered along with other possible procedures to help his breathing but then can be adopted, around Labor Day!
Edgar is house trained and working on kennel training.
He wants to play with his foster brother, but cannot play until his eye is healed.
I think he will be a rough and tumble playmate for a doggie friend and/or human friend.
Come meet this fellow at the PugHearts events and watch for updates on the Facebook Page.

Introducing Callie.
This adorable chunk was surrendered to PugHearts thru zero fault of her own.
As evidenced by her photos (even they don't represent her in person fluffiness), she more closely resembles a baby walrus than a pug.
We want her around a long time, so we are helping her with that.
This is a 9 yr old, small frame girl... who weighs... wait for it... 28 pounds.
• Yes.
She's on a diet starting TODAY.
• Goal weight 18-19.
• Treating for the now familiar skin and ear issues.
• Pending thyroid panel, in case there is a metabolic component we can also treat.
But for tonight, Callie's had a sweet ride, full vet workup, ear meds, skin meds, a snack, a second sweet ride, therapy bath, and already found an affable friend.
All of this the SAME DAY she was surrendered.
That's how we roll.
Callie is already displaying some alpha tendencies, with toy and food guarding.
She may ultimately do better with no or one other passive mate.
Keep watch on Facebook and Instagram as we learn more about Callie, and celebrate yet another transformation to health.
There's a waistline in there somewhere.
Since Callie joined us in April 2022, she has lost an impressive 10 pounds, been diagnosed with Cushing's, is receiving daily meds that have leveled out or eliminated the majority of her symptoms.
Those symptoms consisted of nearly constant panting, excessive hunger and thirst, poor coat, restlessness, skin irritations, weight gain, and pot bellied appearance.
She will needs these meds for life.
She continues to be the bossiest, most active pug here, with daily toy box raids.
Her now plush coat keeping her pretty and warm as we delve into Texas winter.
She's the most interactive (despite being the oldest here, approaching 10), funny foster to ever dawn my doorstep.
We welcome her antics as long as she wants to entertain us.

When we say any pug... Meet Miss Chocolate.
Her owner fell on hard times and initiated contact with us several months ago.
Many conversations and assurances later, owner was ready, and tearfully surrendered her very loved baby, knowing we could provide the needed care she could not.
Chocolate LOVES these cool mornings and scouting every single corner of the yard.
She has a voracious appetite, and does not object to, but holds no interest in her pug mates.
She is blind, but still hears some.
She is surprisingly inquisitive and mobile.
Naturally, some other age related ailments like arthritis have set in.
Chocolate also has several masses we will be addressing soon, and will update her medical/adoptability status as we learn it.
Chocolate is 15 pounds of confidence, hunger, curiosity, and opinions.
Chocolate's days may not be long, but will be filled with love, copious snacks, and the best veterinary care money can buy.
This Is Miss Chocolate, on May 4, 2023 she will be 20.
She came to me for her last days.
She had been only sleeping, going from bed to bed.
When she walked around, and around she would bump into things.
Discovered she has very limited vision and no hearing, but she is very acute.
She knows when I enter a room or open the front door.
The sweetest thing is she sleeps in our breakfast room not a cage.
And every morning around 6-6:30 she’s waiting for me to come to the gate and touch her.
When she came to me she wouldn’t let me hold her but about 3 minutes.
Now she will let me hold her about 20 minutes.
She is so sweet and stands under my feet and when walking by she makes a detour to walk over my feet and rubbing up against them The best thing is she never sat up like in the picture, which she has just started to do since Gramps has been here for a stay while Pam is recovering.
She never barks or cry’s unless I Would put her in her crate.
So she is never in her crate.
She doesn’t even answer me when I talk to her.
She’s my girl and a blessing to have her with me.
CAN YOU SEE THE SWEETNESS in her??
I bet you can.

He was an owner surrender when he came to PugHearts a year ago.
He was adopted and then moved up to the northeast!
Unfortunately, he did not do well with the new home and was returned to PugHearts.
Autry has been in his foster family now for a solid month.

He kennels perfectly at night and when home alone.
He plays and interacts with the other dogs in the house.
And he has been good with young children.
The only enemy he seems to have now is the Sprinkler!

This little doll is only 10 months old.
Avery has some tummy issues we are working on and still has some puppy worms which will all resolve with the current meds she’s taking.

She loves to play, she loves to nap, and she loves to be held…but most of all, she loves exploring her new little world!
Avery still needs all of her vaccines and will need to be spayed before adoption but for now PugHearts will make sure she has everything she needs until she finds her forever family.

Meet Theo, a special foster pug with an indomitable spirit!
This adorable pug came into the rescue with severe eye issues, but that hasn't stopped him from being a bundle of joy.
At around 3 years old, Theo is already crate and potty trained, making him an easygoing companion.
Despite his challenges, Theo's loving personality shines through.
He's a fun-loving little guy who adores toys and craves human affection.
Moreover, he gets along remarkably well with dogs of all sizes, showcasing his friendly and sociable nature.
However, Theo does have some rough edges.
He can be protective and fearless, showing little fear in the face of any challenge.
This strong-willed attitude can sometimes lead to conflicts with other dogs if he feels threatened or provoked.
Though his eyesight might not be perfect, Theo can still see the world and enjoy every moment.
He requires eye drops for the rest of his life, but with the right care and attention, he's ready to embark on a new chapter filled with love and happiness.

Archie (5 yrs) has had a rough start at life.
He was one of five that PugHearts took from a breeder who dumped them.
He lived in an outside pen his entire life and not treated nice by humans.
He is also the only one of the five rescued that was heartworm positive.
We got that taken care of and he did GREAT!
Archie is scared of his own shadow, cowers near humans and jumps at every little noise.
He does, however, get along with other dogs and has not shown any aggression.
UPDATE: Archie is learning to trust, but it takes time with him.
He needs to find a person that will allow him time and patience to show them how amazing this boy really is.
His foster mom is showering him with love, patience and a quiet place to decompress and observe other dogs and how they should be treated.

…and from the ashes, rose a phoenix.
To know Ash’s background, you wouldn’t blame him if he was bitter, surly, or even skittish.
But despite his past, Ash is one of the most loving and mild-mannered pugs I have ever met.
Due to his history and likely his heart worm diagnosis, he’s a tiny guy at only 16.8 lbs.
You’d be forgiven for thinking he was a puppy but, in fact, he is a mature 8 year old.
I like to think that for Ash, this is his opportunity to experience the joyous puppyhood he was deprived of.
Everything he experiences, he experiences with wonder; from a random treat here and there, walks around the neighborhood, and even chasing dragonflies in the back yard.
Like a puppy, he’s still working on some of the fundamentals such as potty training, but he’s demonstrating a real willingness to do what it takes to be a good boy and I have the upmost faith that he will be successful in this endeavor.
Ash is an absolute cuddle bug but not quite Velcro.
He will give you your space, if needed.
He’s scheduled for his neuter on September 12th and will have to undergo treatment for heart worms for a month or two following that.
After that, this little man will be absolutely ready to find his forever home, forever lap, and to live his second puppyhood to its fullest!

Lotus is a great 6 year old girl.
I’m still learning about what she likes.
Typical pug she loves to eat, be held, give kisses and steal my pillow at night.
Sadly it became apparent quickly that her ‘good’ eye has extremely limited vision.
But in typical pug fashion, that doesn’t bother her in the least.
She keeps up very well with the pack.
She squeaks when she whines and she also has a very unique bark.
She’s pretty awesome.
She will be with me for awhile, but once she kicks the heartworm's butt, she’ll be a great companion.

Please Welcome Apollo to PugHearts!
Apollo made his way from The Valley.
He’s a 5 year old Brindle French Bulldog.
Apollo really is such a sweet boy.
He is a true lover and so loyal to his people.
By his appearance I cannot imagine his life before PugHearts.
He is so skinny with patches of hair missing on his back and tail, presumably from fleas because some parts are raw.
His fur is thin and it’s obvious he’s been an outside only dog.
Apollo is also heartworm positive.
His fear of not getting enough food or another dog being mean to him is not all that surprising.
This poor boy had to fight for survival and now that he has a warm bed to sleep in and he gets 2 yummy meals a day, I’m hoping Apollo understands that he’s safe, he’s secure and he’s loved.
Apollo will need a patient and loving family, preferably as the only dog, that will love him and continue to show him he’s special.
Apollo shows no aggression to people, unless you consider massive amounts of kisses aggressive, and he is the best boy at house training and crate training.
He constantly wants to assert his dominance to other dogs, especially if he’s worried that he’s losing his food or might have to share my attention.
He loves relaxing in the dog bed chewing a nylabone, especially if he has me in his sights.
He doesn’t appear to have any anxiety when it comes to separation or being left alone.
Like most Frenchies he’s a little stubborn and hard headed, with a dash of OCD, but learning the best way to redirect him will alleviate most problems.
Apollo was recently neutered, and he had his nares, palate and saccules done as well.
I know Apollo has the perfect home out there waiting for him.

This is Dash- he is a very happy, chill 8 year old boy, very sweet & mellow.
He is starting to come out of his shell a bit, and is now showing his playful side.
He has not had an accident in the house, nor has he shown any interest in marking!
Dash is an excellent houseguest who gets along dogs, people, and even cats!

Hi y'all, Aunt Bea here.
I'm about 12 years old or so.
I don't remember much about my life before I came to PugHearts.
FoMo says I'm just a sweetheart, and I think that's a good thing.
I love giving kisses, and FoMo likes that.
I love my food, however, I can't seem to gain any weight.
We found out a couple months or so that I'm diabetic.
Not really sure what that is, but FoMo gives me a shot every time I eat.
I go sit by the back door when I need to go potty and FoMo says I'm a really good girl.
FoMo said I will most likely stay here for the rest of my life because I'm something called Hospice.
I really like it here, they kinda spoil me and I like that.
Well it's nap time, catch y'all's later.

Hi y'all, Chiquita here.
Im around 12 years old.
I'm a tiny, fat girl.
I'm very petite, as they call me.
I weigh about 10 pounds, but I am a little over weight for my size.
I came to PugHearts after being left at a shelter with injuries to both my eyes.
I had to have 1 eye removed and the other I don't see much out of.
I also had to have emergency surgery because I had a prolapsed vagina.
I'm feeling much better now.
We are still trying to get somethings taken care of, but FoMo and FoPa both say I'm showing my sweet little demanding personality just because I really love to be held and sit with people.
I don't think that it demanding.
I'm currently on medical hold, while we get some other medical issues worked out, so it will be a while before I'm ready for adoption.

Jasper is five years old and has been with PugHearts since December '22.
Jasper came in from puppy mill and knew nothing but cruelty from humans.
But fast forward to today and typical of a pug he is a different boy.
He pays with other dogs, he actually comes to me to be pet and loved and he even likes to take naps on my lap now.
Jasper is crate trained and will walk into his crate after he sits at the door to the bedroom and I pet his head and tell him it's ok to go in.
He then runs straight into his crate and lays down.
He still has an accident now and then (puppy mill dogs usually have issues with this) but to say that he has improved is the understatement of the century.
I can't tell you how proud I am of Jasper.
I took him to an event in early May and he was amazing, I was a mess though...
I was so nervous that it would be too much for him.
But that boy is amazing.
He took off and started running around like he had been doing this for years.
He does still flinch if you reach for him too fast and that may never completely go away but it's not because he's afraid anymore.
I can't tell you how rewarding it was to see Jasper just be a normal pug.
Drum roll..... Jasper is finally ready to have a home and family of his very own.
One that will treat him like the wonderful boy he has always been and make sure nothing ever harms or scares him again.

Gabriel is a 10-year-old male, who spent his entire life in a puppy mill, where he was used and abused – until he came to PugHearts.
Not only was he deaf, but he also suffered from a fractured mandible and dental disease.
Nevertheless, he has no difficulty eating.
When he first came to PugHearts in November, he was absolutely terrified of humans.
Now, he LOVES to be petted and hugged.
He’s a Big Old Boy, but not fat, weighing around 27 pounds.
We lovingly call him BOB!!
Since he can’t hear, the name change doesn’t bother him.
He has learned to respond to hand signals and no longer jumps when approached/touched from behind.
He fit right in with the other animals in the household, including the cat.
He’s very good with children and enjoys meeting new people and animals.
He’s a very young 10 and is quite active and adorably vocal.
Walks a little wonky in the grass but is getting used to it.
Still working on potty training and he wears a belly band when inside.
Gabriel’s transformation has been unbelievable.
He is very affectionate and deserves to spend the next 10 years in a home where he will be loved.

This is the most amazing and wonderful Bonky Boy!
There just aren't words to describe how great he is.
He is a 7 year old owner surrender and I have no idea why, he's pretty much perfect!
His face is one of the most beautiful pug faces I've seen, the fur coloring on his forehead is amazing!
He is another one who has issues that could have been avoided.
He is blind due to dry eye that wasn't treated and he is positive for heartworms.
It's sad that both of these issue could have been prevented with proper care.
But my Bonky Boy is a very happy lad.
He loves to be close to me and jumps on the couch and settles in right next to me be before I know what's happening.
He is a huge bed hog though.
In an effort to be close to me he moves over every time I do and I wake up with my legs hanging off the side of the bed.
I don't let him sleep with me every night because I need a full night every once in a while.
Bonky won't be available for adoption until his heartworms are treated so it will probably be February or March before he's ready to find his new home.

Fred is a two year old from The Valley.
A family there found him and was hoping to keep him but Fred started having issues with them.
The finders called PugHearts to surrender him.
It’s clear poor Fred has not been treated so nicely, but it only takes a day for him to trust and love his people.
He does well with other dogs and finds comfort in them.
At two years old, Fred is still very much a puppy.
He loves playing with his foster siblings and has so much fun with all the toys in the house.
Despite whatever happened in Fred’s past, I am certain he is going to fully recover and be the best family pet ever!
Fred has the most beautiful light coloring, with perky ears and a tail that curls right up to the ceiling.
He is extremely food motivated and will love you forever if you give him treats.
Fred has done extremely well at house training and goes belly band free, even when I’m not home.
He sleeps in an open crate, and will sometimes go in to take a break from playtime.
Fred would do best in a patient home with older children.
He could be a perfect apartment dog as well.
We are working on leash training.
Fred is heartworm negative, up to date on all of his vaccines and was recently neutered so he’s ready to find his forever family!

Calder is a 5 yr. old boy so it’s the perfect combination of fun and chill.
He loves doing anything with his hooman especially if it involves the outdoors.
At home he likes to watch TV with you and take naps by your side.
He likes playing with toys and chewies.
If you work from home he will give you space to do your stuff without jumping into your laptop.
He will be just close by.
He was a stray in San Antonio fending by himself but after 8 months with PugHearts his manners are impeccable.
Potty trained, eats alongside many others dogs with no issues, sits for treats, sleeps in your bed by your side.
Calder sees many dogs coming and going all the time and he does well with all: puppies, big dogs, special needs, he is the perfect guest.
When he goes outside he wants to make sure that he watches your back like a Sheriff and may bark at strangers to protect you but once close by he just wants to make new friends.
He would be great in a place by himself or with others.
You can leave him at the house and trust he will respect it.
He is very thankful that PugHearts gave him a second so every now and then he will come to you and happily kiss you.
Also, expect kisses before going to sleep and in the morning.
Calder is a love bug!

She is 9 years old, heartworm negative and already spayed.
This larger than life lady needs to lose a few pounds, but hey, it happens.

Does well with other pugs in the house.
Angel crates well, but would prefer to share the big bed with her forever family.
She is a real doll and will make a family very happy.

Vegas is 3 years old and thankfully heartworm negative.
He does well with all the other dogs here, but would also be the perfect only dog.
He’s independent, and while he still always wants to be in the same room as you, he doesn’t need to be on top of you like some pugs do.
He’s extremely laid back and calm even though he’s still a puppy.
I call him an “old soul”, or the perfect mix of young body and mature mind.
He is allowed free roaming of my home and has gone belly band free since day one.
He prefers sleeping in a chair with a fluffy blanket as oppose to sleeping in the big bed with the others.
He does great on a leash and would love a family that could take him on walks.
Vegas is about as easy going and easy to care for as they come.
He is awaiting his neuter and recommended breathing surgeries as well as his required boosters before being fully ready for his forever home…but seriously.
A “unicorn pug” like this doesn’t come around often.

Casanova is a 7 year old fawn male.
He came to PugHearts as an owner surrender of no fault of his own.
He is definitely a lover!
He is HW - and neutered.
Casanova is also a winky dog.
While in foster, his right eye ruptured and it was removed January 26, 2023.
While the loss of his eye has not stopped him, we realized the other eye was not seeing to good.
He is not blind but does much better during the day when the light is brighter.
Night time can be more stressful until he learns his environment.
Casanova is wonderful in the crate and will sleep quietly all night but would prefer to be in the bed with you.
Casanova is a couch potato and loves his cow toy.
He just wants to sit next to you and will let you know when he is ready to be in your lap.
He is a chunky boy.
However, now that his diet is under control he is dropping a few pounds.
I have to lift him to the couch and he gets stuck and won’t jump down, not because of mobility issues, more so out of laziness.
We are working on his potty manners, especially with marking but each day is better.
With his eye removal we had a set back, especially when it’s dark outside.
He can be a finicky eater, believe it or not… sometimes I have to mix his food with wet food and water and he likes for someone to be close by.
I thinks this will change want he gets use to his changes with his sight.. Casanova does good with other dogs but he doesn’t have much interest in playing with others.
He likes to be close to you… I’ll be standing in the kitchen cooking or washing dishes and he will just poke his head between my legs to say “what’s up”.
He is true lover with a lot of love to give.
He is looking for his furever home that will have a patience as he learns.
Casanova is a sweet sweet lover boy!

Welcome!
PugHearts Dean aka Mr. Debonair Dean.
I initially picked him up from a wonderful couple that saved him.
Their pug was missing and decided to save him because the finder had him in the trunk of a car.
He was in bad shape and called PugHearts.
Good news is that they found their pug.
They loved him from the moment they saw him and was grateful to save this baby.
I decided I couldn't let him stay in the clinic and became his foster.
Dean is 4 years old and was he so happy he didn't even know where to go first.
Dean will have a long journey, we really don't know how he lived before coming to PugHearts.
Our vet is trying to pinpoint where the head tilt and imbalance are coming from.
They will try to rule out chronic inner ear infection or a brainstem issues.
He was fleas infested but we took care of that, he also has bald patches throughout his body and could use about 1 lb.
or 2.
He sleeps well in the crate and we're working on a potty routine.
He wants to thank everyone for their donations and send hugs and kisses to all.
Stay tuned for his care journey.

Please Welcome Malone to PugHearts!
Malone is a 4 year old owner surrender from The Valley.
His family surrendered him out of love when they didn’t think they could care for him adequately, and PugHearts gladly picked him up.
Malone is epileptic and the doctors had the family so worried and scared, which is sad, because caring for an epileptic dog is not scary.
He is on phenobarbital twice daily and has never had a seizure in his foster home, so we think it’s very controlled on meds.
He doesn’t take flea meds due to their ability to cause seizures but he is on monthly heartworm prevention.
He has a luxating patella causing a wonky gait but it doesn’t slow Malone down at all.
He don’t jump on or off the furniture but will use the stairs to get into bed if he has to.
Besides phenobarbital fir seizures, Malone is on a daily joint supplement.
This boy has so much personality stuffed into a 14 pound squishy body.
He talks.
He sometimes talks back too!
He plays dead when picked up…there’s a video of him on Facebook!
He only sleeps flat on his back too.
Malone loves playing with his foster siblings and is doing great at house training.
He is waiting on his neuter, which will help the marking.
Malone loves kids too.
Really, if you have a hand to pet and a lap to lay in, then you’re his favorite.
This boy may have special needs but he is going to make a lucky family the happiest ever!

PEANUT IS SPECIAL NEEDS Peanut was surrendered to the shelter through no fault of her own.
His owner simply didn’t want him anymore; he was mostly left outdoors by himself.
He has had a rough start in our rescue as he was heartworm positive and needed treatment.
He had a hard time responding to treatment so he was closely monitored for an additional few weeks.
Peanut is a true survivor who defied the odds.
Because of the severity of the heartworms, it caused mild to moderate damage to his heart and he will need to be on medicines the remainder of his life.
That hasn’t seemed to stop him though.
He’s thriving and living his best life now!
He can live a full life, he just needs someone willing to keep him on his meds to keep his heart healthy.
His medicines combined can cost as little as $38.00 per month if purchased online.
Peanut is 5 years old and a petite 16 lbs and as sweet and chill as they come.
His temperament is nothing short of perfect; he’s very gentle with his humans and has good manners.
He would make a wonderful addition to any family with children or would do well as an only dog.
He is awesome with toddlers.
He gets along with the other dogs and will engage in play but he mostly prefers to cuddle with his human(s) on the couch.
Peanut gets along well with other dogs and cats.
He is mostly potty trained and accidents are now few and far between.
Peanut is crate trained though his foster family let him have free reign in the house when they are away as he has proven he can be trusted.
Peanut is ready to find his forever home and is available now.

I Love treats, dinner time and messing with my foster sister all day long.

Please welcome Thomas to PugHearts!
Thomas was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter, who called PugHearts after the required stray hold, and boy are we glad they did!
Thomas needs the love and medical care that only PugHearts can give.
He was suffering from Sarcoptic Mange, Flea Dermatitis, poor nutrition and heartworms.
Thomas also has a scar from a healing ulcer.
After spending a week at the vet to ensure he’s no longer contagious, Thomas made his way to his foster home and the better life he deserves.
We estimate that Thomas is 5 years old.
He will be neutered and have his needed breathing surgeries first, and then will be treated for heartworms.
He will always have a cloudy look to the damaged eye, but his vision appears to be just fine.
Thomas is the sweetest little guy.
He’s about 16 pounds, and will be at a healthy weight after gaining a pound or two.
Thomas is learning about toys and how to play with his foster siblings.
He enjoys always being at my feet and is an expert cuddler in the big bed.
He is working on his house training, and is perfectly happy to wear a belly band when he’s in the house.
He was the perfect angel getting his medicated bath and ears cleaned.
His toe nails are the easiest to cut since they are super white.
He hasn’t joined in the puggy piles, but I’m sure once he’s comfortable he will be a willing participant.
Thomas is searching for his perfect family that will spoil him rotten and love him unconditionally.
He deserves to be treated like a king.

Pascal is a 10 year old male with the energy of a young'n.
He is probably the best foster I have ever had.
Pascal was found as a stray and covered in fleas and not sure how to be a loved or how to be an inside dog… He has learned quickly about soft beds, eating food regularly, toys, treats and hugs.
His potty manners are getting so good.
Pascal is wonderful in the crate and gets along well with other dogs.
His fur is so very soft and he is just so grateful to be loved on.
He is a snuggler!
He loves toys, strawberries and to be all up in your lap.
Pascal is HW + but that will be fixed in a few weeks.
He is a dream of a pup that any family would be blessed and so happy to have as a member of the family.

Melvin is a 10 year old NAP (Not A Pug) and has had an extremely hard life.
He came in with a viral infection so had to stay at the clinic for over a week before he was able to come to his foster home.
Melvin has cherry eye and will need to have that fixed when he is neutered and had a skin issue that was pretty hard on his hair.
The bald spots are finally starting to fill in.
Melvin will also need eye drops for life.
He has been with me for several weeks now and he is growing more comfortable.
He really likes to be on the couch or on my lap.
He started showing interest in hooves but I had to put them up because he gets a little aggressive when another foster gets too close.
He gets along quite well with all the other fosters.
Melvin will have his procedures done soon and be ready to find a family that has the heart to open their home to such a sweet old guy that has never been loved or cared for.

Please Welcome Sherry to PugHearts!
Sherry is an 8 year old Pug Mix that came to PugHearts from a local shelter.
She was found as a stray with a broken leg and the shelter doctor did surgery to fix it.
She has healed fairly well and is only on a daily joint supplement to help with possible arthritis later on.
We’re not sure what Sherry is mixed with, but her wispy, wire coat make us believe there’s Terrier of some sort.
She has the most beautiful apricot coloring, perfectly lazy pug curly tail and a smile that lights up a room.
Sherry does well with other dogs, but would be perfect as the only child as well.
There’s not a mean or aggressive bone in her body and sometimes even the crazy little puppies can boss her around.
Sherry loves being outside laying in the sun, and will spend her mornings catching all the rays she can get.
Sherry is crate trained, and will go in on command of if she needs to get away from the excitement for a while.
She is house trained, and will go to the door waiting to be let out to do her business.
Sherry loves treats and is working hard on not taking off your finger in the process of getting one!
Nylabones and chew toys make her the happiest!
Sherry was spayed early on, and it appears she was really loved at one time, which makes her ending up as an injured stray in the shelter even sadder.
She is fully up to date on vaccines and is a healthy and happy little girl.
I know someone is out there wanting to give Sherry a home, and she deserves to be loved and spoiled, with plenty of couch cuddles and kisses!

If given time outside, he will do his business, true gentlemen don't like to be rushed.
Gino is pretty healthy for a senior man, is altered, has a great grill and likes to sing the language of his peoples!!

Please Welcome Magnolia to PugHearts!
Magnolia was surrendered to us by a Good Samaritan that found her roaming the streets.
After 3 weeks of looking for her owner, they decided to turn her over to us so that she could have the life she deserves.
Magnolia is a pocket sized pug at only 12 pounds.
She’s estimated to be 3 years old even though she really looks like a puppy.
Sadly, she is heartworm positive.
She has a beautiful apricot coat and ears that probably grew a little more than they should!
Magnolia is crate trained and has done beautifully at her house training.
She cowers at times making me think that someone might not have been nice to her at one time, but she adores her foster siblings.
Cuddling on a dog bed or a crate are definitely some of her favorite things.
Despite not being spayed, it appears that Magnolia has never had to have puppies.
She will have her spay surgery as well as her much needed breathing surgeries that include both her stenotic nares and soft palate resection prior to adoption.
She is still unfortunately positive meaning we will begin treatment after her surgery.
She is so special.
Magnolia does great with children, cats and other dogs.
She is hoping to find that perfect family that wants a tiny pug to join their house.

Benjamin, also known as Benji is a 2 year old who made his way to PugHearts as an Owner Surrender.
At 2, he’s all puppy energy and so much fun.
He loves everyone here and plays with toys non stop.
You will almost always find him with a stuffy in his mouth or playing the mouth game with his foster siblings.
He does great with children of all ages, and most certainly would love to have a human friend to grow up with.
I call Benjamin a smutty fawn, or a perfect mixture of a black pug and fawn pug.
The best of both worlds!
At 15 pounds, his stocky frame is all muscle and absolutely perfect.
Benjamin is already neutered and had his needed breathing surgeries and vaccines upon intake, but sadly this youngster is heartworm positive.
He will go thru heartworm treatment with PugHearts, and will be ready for his forever home after that.

Poor Hugh was found wandering in a warehouse with a larger dog, no idea how long he had been on his own.
He’s very sweet and great with other dogs of all sizes.
He has made great progress on his potty training and is also good on a leash... well, unless he is in a mood to army crawl through the grass and make ridiculous noises – it is a big hobby of his and hilarious to watch.
He is perfectly crate trained and never has an accident in his kennel where he’s also used to sleeping.

When they said a picture is worth 1,000 words, they were talking about 6 year old Rolphe.
I just can't get enough of looking at this face.
He came in with a yeast infection, runny nose, nasty ears, intact and super stinky.
But in all that he is HW-, which really surprised me.
He is also going to be a fairly large boy when he is at the correct weight.
He weighs 22 pounds now but I think he needs another 3-5 so his bones don't stick out everywhere.
But that head, it's huge and the face attached to it has no comparison.
He's also almost white except for his mask and ears.
He's just beautiful.
Rolphe is a very quiet guy.
I have yet to hear him bark and he waits at my feet to be allowed on the couch.
When I pick him up, he lays on my lap and stares into my eyes, all the time.
I allow him to sleep with me and Charlie and he's been the perfect bed partner.
Rolphe needs to be neutered and have his severe entropion fixed and will be ready for the perfect family in the early part of June.
He will need to have eye drops going forward but other than that he's good.
He's not a player yet and may never be.
But he's so gentle that he would be a great fit for a family with kind, younger children.
This boy is pretty close to perfect (I personally think he is) and adopting him will be the best decision his new family could ever make.

Temple comes to PugHearts in pretty bad shape from a local shelter.
All indications are her former life was lived 100% outside, and involved little to no care or human interaction.
She is TINY.
But in this disheveled, 5yo, petite 12 pound body, covered in sun-bleached orange hair that should be black, beats the heart of a survivor.
Among her conditions so far: Nearly blind from years of untreated dry eye; we already spayed her; wobbly knees; severe heart worm disease.
Despite all of this, she motors around with fearless determination, her perfectly double curled tail *mostly* up.
She does not seem fearful or painful.
She seems like there is some feisty waiting to emerge, as she occasionally bites on her leash during walks, which she loves to take on these limited, cool evenings.
I hope to show this wee girl love, healing, and humor.
She takes her medicine in Vienna sausage like a piranha, indicating she'll be receptive.
Look for Temple to be home ready late summer/early fall after heart worm treatment.
She will need a family with the dedication and attentiveness that goes with loving a sight impaired dog.

Please give a warm PugHearts’ Welcome to Ace!
Ace and his brother, Archer, found their way to PugHearts after being abandoned in a Houston suburb.
Ace is only 13 weeks old and is one of the cutest mixes you’ll ever meet!
At only 4 lbs., this adorable, spunky little puppy loves to play, loves to explore, and loves to run in the backyard with all the big Pugs.
Ace is learning to potty outside, and will come running to you when you call him.
He loves to take naps and does great sleeping through the night!
Ace isn’t quite ready for adoption as he still needs all of his vaccines and boosters, and will also need to be neutered once he’s old enough.
Given his rough start, Ace is doing remarkably well and is just the happiest little puppy!
Welcome to PugHearts, sweet Ace, we are so glad you are here!

Please welcome handsome Jett to PugHearts!
This adorable boy is 6 years old and is simply stunning!
We don’t know much about Jett as he was found wondering, but it appears that he may have been used for breeding.
He is not comfortable on furniture, and he doesn’t quite know what to do when you pick him up.
He is learning potty manners, but absolutely loves people and gets along great with all the other dogs in my home!
Jett is as sweet as you could ever imagine.
He will follow you everywhere and loves to be near you.
This handsome fellow is neutered, heart worm negative, ready for a family to call his own, and is just an all around sweetheart!
Welcome to PugHearts, Jett…we are so glad you are here.

Foster Emmett was found running the streets with another Pug.
An attempt to find the owners came up empty.
He is a handsome, compact little man.
My guess is that he is probably 4 years old.
He still needs to be neutered.
He is working on not marking in the house by being let out frequently.
He is Heartworm Negative.
He is a happy and playful little boy.
He does like to play with humans and can be a little mouthy so it would be best for there to be no young children, only older respectful ones in the household.
Like all Pugs, he is food motivated and is always ready to respond when the word treat is said!
He is crate trained.
He needs a furever family.

Bradley has my heart, and I'm confident he'll have yours too.
He is a five year old boy who has had the cards stacked against him, but despite it all, continues to be so full of love.
Bradley arrived to us with his ribs showing, scars scattered throughout his body (including his head), and burn marks on his limbs from laying on the concrete.
Yes, he was left as an outside dog.
An outside dog in TEXAS HEAT.
Not only did he have to suffer through the harsh temperatures, but he also had fleas and various worms to combat.
Even with having lived in rough conditions, he remains calm-tempered and oh so sweet.
C’mon, you can even see it in his face.
With any morsel of attention given, his tail will be a waggin' and his paws pitter pattering.
He wants to please and will always come when called.
Bradley would be okay as an only dog, as attention from people bring him the most joy, but would be great in a multi-dog home as well.
He will get food aggressive but is learning day by day that there is enough food to go around for all.
Otherwise, does great with my other pug.
Over the last few weeks, Bradley has changed before our eyes.
The best part?
He is finally learning that he is loved.
Oh, so loved.
Could you be his forever family?
Bradley will be undergoing HW treatment.
He will be available for adoption early Sept 2023.

Stanley is a 5 yr old male that came to PugHearts from the Rio Grande Valley.
He is unfortunately heart worm positive but is thankfully now getting a chance to be treated.
He quickly became a Velcro pug and got along with my 7 yr old daughter and female pug.
He is super playful and we learned on the first day that he loves his toys.
He is skeptical of men and will bark at anyone that isn’t my husband so hopefully he will learn over time to be more trusting.
Overall, he is a very friendly and loving boy that loves to cuddle.
He does not like his tail to be touched.
We learned that the hard way so we just stay away from that area.
I am unsure of how he was treated by his previous owner.
He has been a quick learner and after he was neutered he hasn’t had any accidents in the house and runs down the stairs to the back door when he needs to go out.
He still has to go through more heart worm treatment and his adoption is pending until his medical treatment is completed.

Angelo is a seven-year-old neutered male.
He is currently heartworm positive and going through treatment.
He was an owner surrender due to no fault of his own.
Angelo really is the whole package… he is potty trained, goes into the crate without “talking back”, he knows how to “sit” and plays very well with toys.
He walks on a leash like a champ and doesn’t get super excited when passing other dogs.
He doesn’t bark when people come over and is truly an all-around well behave guy!
He gets excited when he sees the leash but what dog doesn’t?
You can put your shoes, purses, clothes, etc.
on the floor and Angelo will not mess with them.
He likes to be close to you but isn’t in your face.
He is crated while I am at work M-F (full business day plus commute) and handles it like a star.
No bait and switch here… Angelo is the real deal!
Come meet him and see for yourself.

Parker is a 3 year old boy who came to PugHearts through no fault of his own.
He's a happy, fearless little boy who loves to play with other dogs or with his humans!
Parker knows the good things in life and will always seek out pillows or other comfy places to lay.
He's a healthy mix of calm and active, resting up during the day and ready to play when the human's work day is over.
He loves pug eggs and plushy toys, and gets along great with other dogs and kids.
Parker's ideal home would have a pug playmate, either another active dog or someone to play with.
A yard for him to run around in would be ideal.
And pillows, lots of pillows!

Riggs is 3 years old and quite the handsome young man.
When I picked him up at the vet I thought I had another puppy and was completely surprised (and relieved) to find out how old he is.
He just weighs 11 pounds and looks like a puppy.
He was just a tad crazy when he first arrived (understatement).
It could have had something to do with him being alone for days after his owners moved and abandoned him at an apartment complex!
He was pretty skinny and so excited to be with people.
But he has calmed down so much in the 3 weeks he's been with me.
Riggs was neutered (which made a huge difference in his behavior), had his palate and nares fixed and is ready for his new life.
He is very social and loves his people, maybe a little more than his foster siblings.
Riggs loves to give kisses and will be a fantastic guy for a home with children or adults who will give him attention.
He is crate trained and is doing exceptionally well with the concept of going potty outside.
If you want a puppy for life Riggs is just your guy.
He's really something.
Riggs is currently on Medical Hold addressing some gastro issues.
He is still active and happy and loving.

Mike is a 3 year old who was once part of a puppy mill but thankfully found his way to PugHearts.
Mike is a delicate little pug, he weighs 13 pounds but looks like he weighs less.
And that face, wow!
He is a good little guy all the way around.
He's crate trained, gets the concept of going outside and plays well with all the other fosters but also has the need to cuddle and be with his human.
He's not not a super active guy so, due to his size, would do well with younger, well behaved, children.
Mike is just a great little guy!

Please Welcome Cyrus to PugHearts!
Cyrus was found as stray roaming in an open field by Animal Control Officers in Pasadena and immediately picked up and taken to the shelter.
After the subsequent stray hold with no one coming forward, PugHearts was called and we picked him up.
Cyrus is Persian for sun which suited his bright smile and gorgeous fiery apricot colored coat, so we thought the name fit him perfectly.
He’s 3 years old, weighing in at 14 pounds.
I’d consider him a short statured pug.
Despite his longer body, shorter than normal legs and the slight hint of a nose, Cyrus is all pug.
From his curly tail to his Velcro personality, he will undoubtedly win you over with his pug charm.
Cyrus loves his foster siblings and plays zoomies and the mouth game constantly.
He loves his people too and started cuddling from day 1.
Cyrus loves watching Netflix on the couch and cuddles with his head on my shoulder every single night in the big bed.
He does well in the crate and has learned quickly to go there when I’m getting ready to leave.
House training has gone great with just occasional marking that should subside once he’s neutered and away from intact dogs here at his foster home.
Cyrus had his intake and he’s heartworm negative!
He will be scheduled for his neuter and have the rest of his boosters soon.
He’s hoping to have a family of his own waiting for him when he’s ready…and trust me!
This 3 year old cutie is totally worth the wait!

Please Welcome Maxwell to PugHearts!
Maxwell is an owner surrender from a backyard breeder that came with his breeding partner as well as one of their puppies, all in horrible condition.
Maxwell was suffering from Sarcoptic Mange, which is the contagious kind.
Sadly some of the puppies passed before the surrender was complete, and they unfortunately wanted to keep a few too.
He is 17 months old and thankfully heartworm negative since it’s clear he has spent his life sitting on concrete by the tough skin on his bottom.
Maxwell has the most soulful eyes and he’s learning what it means to be a spoiled pug.
He is extremely Velcro too.
If back rolls were an Olympic Sport, Maxwell would win the Gold Medal!
Maxwell loves his foster siblings and is learning to play with others.
He loves his nylabones, which he still needs to be reminded to share.
Crate training is coming along well and he’s working hard on his house training.
His skin is getting better by the day, and will soon have the most beautiful fawn coat.
Maxwell is learning to sit for treats and loves getting his daily dental treat.
Fruits and vegetables are new to him, but he’s learning that he really likes them.
He will be neutered, as well as have all his breathing surgeries and vaccines prior to adoption.
Maxwell is going to make a lucky family very happy.
He is hoping to be in his forever home before the end of summer!

Foster Rocko (aka “Chunks,” “Chunkster,” “Chunky Butt”) has earned the absolute highest level of privileges this house can bestow - an invite to our 5 year old’s ultra-exclusive playhouse for storytime and “lunch.” This is a level of trust that most fosters never achieve, Rocko is just a good pug.
Rocko is still working on his physique so he can drop that “obese” description when he visits the vet (he’s lost some weight already), and his ears and skin are well on their way to clearing up.
This awesome boy should be ready to find his new home soon - he uses the dog door like a champ, gets along well with everyone (even the cat), chews his toys, and is just that right amount of playful.

Hazel is a 3 year old owner surrender pug.

She loves attention and food.
She’s learning about treats and toys.
Sleeps well in her crate if that’s your preference.
Potty trained as long as she’s let out regularly.
So far she has not asked to go out and will potty in the house if not let out routinely.
She has been diagnosed with collapsing trachea and may require medication to treat that periodically.
She is calm and likes to nap all day in her bed or on the couch.
She’s excellent with other dogs, cats, rabbits, etc.
She is learning that she should not try to guard her food and she will always have her own bowl.

Please Welcome Pugsy to PugHearts!
Pugsy made his way to PugHearts as an Owner Surrender due to family changes and allergies.
He was obviously well loved and he has adapted to his foster home quite well and quite quickly.
Pugsy is 2 years old.
He has the light colored coat that make his black mask even more striking.
At 17 pounds, Pugsy is a regular sized pug, with a flat face and the most perfect curly tail.
Pugsy loves his foster siblings and gets along great with everyone here.
He does well with cats and enjoys the little human friends too!
He has done amazing at house training, wearing his belly band only at night while sleeping in the big bed.
Pugsy is working in crate training and seems to be adjusting well with a few cries at the beginning of being crated.
Pugsy is heartworm negative and received all of his vaccines upon intake.
He was recently neutered and had his recommended breathing surgeries as well.
He’s being treated for bacterial colitis but with meds that will clear up in no time.

Please Welcome Franklin to PugHearts!
Franklin is 10 years old and was dumped at the shelter by his owners with a suspected rectal prolapse.
As with most professionals not familiar with prolapses, euthanasia was the first suggestion.
The second was to call PugHearts, and I’m so happy they did.
Our volunteers in the San Antonio area jumped into action.
Franklin was taken to a local vet for a purse string, which is basically a drawstring placed in the rectum to keep the contents inside where it’s suppose to be.
Franklin made his way to see Dr. Hendrix at Sugar Land Pet Hospital.
Franklin was sedated to remove the purse string and do a full rectal exam.
It was feared he might have a ruptured anal gland, so he was rushed into surgery immediately.
Thankfully, it was only a rectal prolapse.
Dr. Hendrix performed a colopexy and neutered Franklin as well.
A colopexy is where the colon is pulled tightly and tacked to the abdominal wall, preventing further prolapses.
Franklin will have no lasting effects from his colopexy surgery and will go on to live a very happy life!
He will need to have his palate done and some teeth pulled, but anesthesia had already gone longer than Dr. Hendrix wanted, so that will be scheduled at a later date.
Thankfully Franklin is heartworm negative.
He’s an extremely well adjusted dog, and I do believe he was very loved in his life, which makes him ending up at the shelter even more sad.
Franklin is crate and house trained.
He does great will all the other dogs here, and if the youngsters get too crazy, he’ll just put himself in the crate for a nap.
Pictures don’t do Franklin justice.
He is the most beautiful rusty apricot color.
He loves to talk to me and never misses a chance at a good belly rub.
Franklin will make a great addition to any home.
Don’t let his age deter you.
This boy has so many years of love to still give.

Elmer found his way to PugHearts after being discovered roaming the streets in Spring, TX.
Despite being believed to be around 10 years old, his agility defies his age.
He can run and play with the best of them.
Whenever neighborhood cats intrude into the backyard, Elmer confidently chases them away, and he even makes a daily game out of chasing the housecat indoors.
Due to his behavior with cats, it's likely that Elmer would be best suited for a household without any feline companions.
He has adapted well to a daily routine, comfortably resting in his kennel during the day and snuggling up in the big bed at night.
He makes a good couch potato and loves to lay in your lap or by your side.
Elmer LOVES kids!
If you have children or grandchildren, then Elmer will be a great fit!

Kalea made her way to PugHearts from Corpus Christie after her owner passed away unexpectedly.
I picked her up and fell in love instantly, knowing she had to be my foster!
Kalea is Hawaiian for happiness and joy which fits her personality perfectly.
She is 5 years old with the most gorgeous brown eyes, and she smiles!
Kalea was already spayed, but had her much needed breathing surgeries following her intake exam.
She is healthy, happy and heartworm negative, meaning she’s ready to go!
Kalea loves cuddles and big bed sleeping.
She is crate trained, even though she’s so well behaved that she doesn’t really need it.
She appears to be fully house trained too!
Kalea gets along with all the other dogs here and would be great with cats as well.
She is super Velcro and wants to be with her person at all times.
She will sit with you no matter where you are for as long as you’re there.
Her sweet temperament makes her perfect for any type of house hold, and could even thrive as an only dog too.

Kalea is hoping to start her new forever soon!

Allow me to introduce Glenda to PugHearts and all of our followers.
Her story embodies the PugHearts Motto, and despite being overwhelmed with more dogs than ever before, there was no question that we would step up to care for her and give her the help she needs.
The single text of an X-ray was all it took to know I’d be preparing the pink palace once more.
Glenda has a laundry list of problems.
This tiny 12 pound, eight year old has been overbred and is heartworm positive, but the X-rays tell us even more.
She has severe dislocation in both hips, as well as hip dysplasia and no cups on the pelvis.
Her front left leg has a severe angular deformity causing a lateral curvature.
This is most likely a premature closure of the growth plate and typically happens when puppies are dropped.
Glenda also has a broken pelvis.
This injury appears to be new with no callus and sadly we know this is more than likely a HBC injury.
To my surprise, Glenda came home with me last night.
My instructions are the usual crate rest, but also to evaluate her and answer a few questions.
Is she happy?
Is there a Quality of Life?
Is there something we can do to make her Quality of Life better?
What issues cause her the most trouble?
Well….after a few weeks in her foster home, Glenda has proven to us all that she’s full of life!
She was recently spayed, and will be going thru heartworm treatment in a few weeks.
This tiny little fighter is more than amazing and can teach all of us how to live our life to fullest despite the challenges we were born with.
Glenda is going to make a family extremely lucky.
She does stairs, sleeps in the big bed and is both crate and house trained!

Raquel is the most precious little 4 year old girl.
She came to us from a neglectful situation that was hard to believe.
She was left outside to starve and had it not been for a caring neighbor who fed her and convinced her owner to surrender her, who knows what would have happened to her.
Her skin is horrific.
She is missing a considerable amount of hair and it is very slow to grow in because her body is working hard to address all her other problems like malnutrition and heartworms.
If her head is any indication, once it does come in, she will be super velvety.
It is hard to understand why anyone would put this dog outside.
Besides an absolutely precious face, her manners are literally perfect.
She adores kids, is dog friendly, polite about food (eats in a room with 5 other dogs and minds her bowl only) and she has not had a single accident.
In fact, she discovered the doggy door on her first day here and hasn't needed guided potty breaks at all.
She is beautifully crate trained and knows sit as well.
She doesn't rush out of a door or a gate and she is not a barker.
She plays with toys and is slowly figuring out playtime with other dogs too!
This expert cuddles does suffer from a dry eye and will need drops for life but will otherwise be healthy once she completes her heartworm treatment.
We are smitten and think you should apply for this angel of a dog asap!

There are concerns she may be suffering from a collapsing trachea, and this will be monitored as we work on her weight loss.

Pruitt was found laying in a ditch trying to stay cool and get access to water before the July 4th holiday weekend.
The family that lived there brought him in immediately and started looking for his family.
After an exhaustive search, and even making an appointment to drop him off at the Pasadena Shelter, a family friend put them in contact with PugHearts.
We picked him up and immediately noticed he had an eye injury and struggled to breathe with Brachiocephalic Syndrome.
Pruitt went in for his intake and was scheduled for surgery the following day.
He had an enucleation (eye removal) his neuter, and then to help his breathing, he also had his nares, palate and saccules done.
The results are nothing short of amazing!
Pruitt can breathe!!!
Unfortunately, Pruitt is heartworm positive.
Luckily there’s no heart and lung changes, but it’s sad he wasn’t taken care of like he should have been.
He will go thru treatment and be heartworm free soon.
Pruitt is the most unique and beautiful coloring.
Breeders call this Sable, but I call it Super Smutty!
Pruitt is beautuful no matter what you call his coloring.
He’s definitely as sweet as he is gorgeous.
He loves big bed cuddles or snuggling in the dog bed with his foster siblings.
Pruitt is a singer and a talker.
That’s really what he does instead of barking and it’s pretty adorable.
He is going to make a family so happy that he chose them!

Of course we took this precious pup in with open arms!
Hogan loves to lounge with his humans or you might find him snoozing by himself on a comfy doggie bed.
He has a very balanced temperament, a loving personality and would fit in perfectly with any family with kids or as an only dog.
Hogan gets along with the other dogs in his foster home (both young and senior dogs) and occasionally will engage in play with the younger dogs.
He hasn’t shown any interest in the doggie toys or chews yet.
Hogan is full of love, is gentle and gets super excited at meal times!
He is crate trained and walks right into his crate at bedtime and is a sound sleeper.
We’re still working on potty training but he’s made great progress in the 2 weeks he’s been in foster care.
Hogan is healthy and is available to adopt now!

Please give a warm PugHearts’ welcome to Milagro!
Milagro came to PugHearts after she was left abandoned in an apartment.
She made her way to Houston a few weeks ago and has truly done remarkably well given her previous circumstances Milagro is great with the other dogs in my home, she is fantastic with children, and she absolutely loves to be around people!
And while she’s still working on her potty skills, Milagro is crate trained, sleeps nicely through the night, and is truly an amazing little girl!
Given her a rough start, I am truly impressed at how well she has acclimated to my home and her new surroundings.
So welcome to PugHearts and the good life, beautiful Milagro, we are so glad you are here!

I am 7 1/2 weeks old now, I am just over 6 Lbs., I have definitely found my voice, and I am the cutest 1/2 NAP you’ll ever meet!
We are still waiting for my DNA results to come back but my FOMO thinks I’m a Pugador and Dr. Hendrix thinks she might just be right!
This is Milagro's puppy, so we know she is at least half pug.

Lettie is a small, sweet 7 year old pug that was an owner surrender.
She rarely has “accidents” in the house.
She is blind and doesn’t hear very well, but she is not completely deaf.
She is happy as long as she is in the room with me.
She has hip arthritis, but it doesn’t interfere with her mobility.
She has a mildly enlarged heart and does cough intermittently.
There is nothing wrong with her appetite, and she takes pills like a champ!
She gets along with the other dogs in the house.
I don’t know about cats.
She is such a sweet little lady.
I couldn’t help but fall in love with her.
She doesn’t really play with toys.
She is full of love, and would do better in a house with older or no children.
She would be perfect for someone that works from home.
She needs someone to hold her and love her unconditionally, and she will return that love.

A fictionalized account of Zaina's story The road noise was horrendous in the battered old van that she was riding in.
The smell of stale cigarette butts and dirty carpet were strong but the smell of the man was just as obvious to her.
The van itself was really just a rattle-trap that was kept around for transporting all manner of things.
It was dark, even in daylight and tonight, the only lights Zaina saw were the cones of light that the street lights put out in the wet darkness.
It had been raining slowly for some time, more a misty rain than a drenching rain, even though if you went out in it you would be soaked quickly.
Suddenly, the van came to a stop and the driver got out.
He took a long drag on his cigarette and tossed it into the gutter on the road.
An empty lot that was over grown with grass and weeds framed his shape as he slid open the side door of the van.
He reached in and grabbed her and tossed her in the long grass of the lot, turned and walked back to the driver’s side door, got in and drove away.
She felt alone, even though the traffic on the highway next to the frontage road that the van had been on was only fifty or so feet away.
She got wet quickly and was glad that the night was still warm and humid, like most southeast Texas summer nights.
The feeling of being left alone in a place she didn’t know scared her.
She had never had to take care of herself before.
It had always been the man who cared for her, though it wasn’t the most pleasant existence.
Locked in a small cage made of wire, left outside day and night, though she was protected from the harsh sun or the frigid cold, it wasn’t a comfortable place to live.
She didn’t have much choice; the man wanted her puppies to sell.
He thought he could make money breeding her.
Boy was he wrong.
Several of her puppies died shortly after birth and the rest had health problems.
He took them from her when they were only six weeks old, really barely old enough to be away from their mom.
She decided she couldn’t hide in the lot forever and started to make her way out of the lot toward the road.
She didn’t know anything about roads or highways or cars or the dangers of the city.
She just knew she couldn’t stay in the lot and keep getting wet.
She needed somewhere safe to lay down for a while.
She stepped out into the street and a car flew past her sending misty, dirty spray up in front of her and getting her wetter.
Another car passed and another, going so fast they would never see her.
She kept going across the street.
Another car, and another and then another.
Suddenly, a car coming towards her swerved and then came to an abrupt stop, almost colliding with her in the street.
It backed up a bit, and the emergency flashers came on.
A lady got out of the car and came toward her.
She froze only for a second and then turned and darted toward the long grass and weeds in the empty lot.
Another car swerved and nearly hit her, but she moved quickly and made it back to the safety of the long grass in the empty lot.
Now she was wet and frightened and needed a place to hide.
She saw the lady cross the street and step into the lot where she was.
The lady turned on a light and began calling out.
The sound of her voice was gentle, almost like a song.
She had never really trusted anyone because the only person she really knew was the man.
She didn’t like him, so the only reference she had for how humans treated her was him.
This was a dilemma.
Just as she was thinking about this, the lady was above her.
She grabbed Zaina and held on tight.
Not knowing what would happen, Zaina struggled, trying to break free from the lady.
The whole time, the lady was whispering “it’s okay sweetie, you’ll be fine, I won’t hurt you, settle, settle.” Zaina nearly broke free before the lady was able to regain control over her.
She took Zaina and put her in the back of her truck in a crate.
It had a nice pad and the truck smelled nice – not like cigarettes but like the lady’s perfume…and like other dogs.
There was a whole range of smells, nothing like the man’s van!
The lady started talking and it was evident that she was on her phone.
She said something about finding a little pug running on the streets alone.
“Was there someone who could take her to a safe place?” she said.
Zaina stood looking around herself to see what there was to see but there wasn’t much.
It was still dark and wet outside and the street lights were still shining their cone shaped light.
By now they were moving and she heard the lady say, “Sure, I can drop her with you.
Can you tell me where to meet you?” She was surely on a journey now, but to where she wasn’t sure.
What she didn’t know was that the lady knew of a wonderful group of people who helped little pugs like her when they were in need and that was where this lady was taking her.
Little did she know that she had just won the unwanted dog lottery!
There will be more to little Zaina’s story…watch in the coming weeks as we follow her journey to a place of love, caring, safety and health.
With your help, dear reader, Zaina’s story will have a happy ending.

Andre is a 2 year old pug who was found as a stray.
He is sadly heartworm positive and will not be available until after treatment.
Andre is an absolute lover.
This boy always wants to be touching a human, or in some cases other pugs.
He has never met a stranger and gets along with everyone and other dogs.
He doesn't play with toys a lot, he isn't destructive in the house, and we're working on his potty training but he's making very good progress!
Andre sleeps great in a crate at night and other than his heartworm is a healthy, happy boy who just wants to be a part of the family!

She is quickly adjusting to the routines of her foster home and is doing pretty well with potty training so far.
Unfortunately, Valentina came to PugHearts very skinny and missing a lot fur, she is quickly getting fur back and eating plenty.
She is heartworm positive and will need to complete heartworm treatment before she can be adopted.

Hi everyone, my name is Jade.
I’m a 3 year old, 16 lb sweetheart from Laredo.
I was an owner surrender through no fault of my own.
I’m settling in nicely with my foster brothers and cat sister (she doesn’t want to be friends yet).
The dr told PH I have some hair loss due to a skin infection and also a pretty yucky ear infection in both ears; but my foster family is helping me get that all cleared up.
I’m currently learning some manners like not jumping and chomping my foster mom’s hand for snacks as well as pottying outside.
She’s not sure, but my suspects I only used pads because that’s what I’m doing now and not very fond of being on grass.
I’ll be ready for my fur-ever home soon!

Please Welcome Paco to PugHearts!
Paco came to PugHearts after being found roaming the streets.
After exhaustive efforts to find his forever family, PugHearts was called for pick up…and boy are we glad about that!
During his intake exam, one of our doctors felt a mass in the abdomen.
Upon further examination it was determined that poor Paco had a splenic mass and he was taken into to surgery for a splenectomy, or removal of the spleen.
Luckily it was found before it ruptured and Paco will be able to live a happy life, just minus his spleen!
Paco was also neutered while under anesthesia.
Sadly, Paco is heartworm positive so he will need to go thru treatment prior to adoption.
This 2 year old boy is as cute as he is sweet.
Paco’s two front paws look as if they were dipped in paint with black Dalmatian spots.
He has the cutest peek-a-boo tongue too.
Paco loves his foster siblings and started playing with toys on day 1.
He freely gives kisses and is the happiest baby ever!
Paco’s uniqueness and personality are definitely worth the wait.

Puppy breath for days and a cuddle to boot.
Flint is a 4 month old precious black beauty, soon to be neutered, and up to date on vaccines.
He plays hard and holds his own with his older foster siblings, at which point we warmly refer to this silly boy as “Flintlock or Flintstone”.
Just watching him interact is joyful and refreshing.
He loves toys of all kinds (stuffed, rubber, squeaky, etc.)
and if supplied with bones or chew toys keeps that puppy habit well under control.
He follows his foster siblings outside learning potty techniques although he likes to play, so he may get distracted and need a little extra time to take care of business.
He knows his name, can sit on command, and has learned “kennel” at mealtime.
His foster siblings are a bit food aggressive, so kenneling keeps him safe and teaches him structure.
He has mastered the puppy dog eyes, so he gets plenty of time on the couch and bed cuddling with foster siblings and parents.
He kennels like a champ at night with his “Lambie” and a couple of toys.

“Mama, will you tell me a bedtime story?” asked the little girl.
“Of course, sweetie.
What kind of story would you like me to tell?” “You know I love stories about dogs.
Tell me a story about how we got Crosby and Crystal.” The little girl was referring to their two beloved family pugs.
“Ok, but it has to be a short story because it’s bedtime.” The little girl’s mother continued, “Just beyond the distant, quaint village of Barkala, nestled between rolling hills and lush green meadows, a shadow loomed.
High above the meadows, a mountain rose to terrific heights.
Atop the mountain lived a breeder known for his greed and not so nice treatment of dogs.
“Mama, is he like a fearsome dragon?"
“Yes sweetie, he kinda was like a dragon.
He was mean and his wrath tormented the villagers for far too long.
He transformed into this menacing beast due to his wicked ways… One fateful day, as the villagers gathered in the village square, discussing the ever-present threat, a woman from the royal court arrived.
With a grace that commanded attention and a strength that exuded confidence, she introduced herself as Cynthia, from the royal court of PugHearts – a group known for their dedication to pugs in need.
As Cynthia listened to the villagers' tales of woe, her heart was moved by their plight.
Determined to free the village from the dragon's tyranny, she devised a plan.
Gathering a team of PugHearts volunteers, including Ralph, Emma, Margaret, and Flora, they embarked on a mission to save not only the village but also two pugs held captive by the dragon's cruel breeding games.
Guided by Cynthia's wisdom, the team set out to face the dragon.
With courage in their hearts, they ventured to the dragon's lair.
It was an arduous climb up the mountain.
The higher they climbed, the more difficult it got.
The temperature got colder and colder; the ground filled with sharp rocks and loose dirt.
As they reached the top, the dragon's roars echoed, and his fiery eyes glowed with malice.
As they arrived at the mouth of the dragon’s cave, fire blasted at them.
They clung to the side of the mountain in preparation to execute their plan… "Release these innocent pugs and end your reign of terror," Cynthia demanded, her voice unwavering.
The dragon bared his teeth, his menacing laugh sending shivers down their spines.
"You dare challenge me?
I am the embodiment of power!"
But Cynthia, undeterred, employed her cunning and resourcefulness.
With the help of her PugHearts companions, they used their strengths and cunning to outwit the dragon, redirecting his flames and creating a diversion that allowed the two pugs he held captive, Crosby and Crystal, to escape.
The dragon was very angry and threatened to follow them back down the mountain and destroy them and the village.
But the PugHearts team had a plan.
They had climbed up above the cave and, with swift action, caused an avalanche of rocks to block the cave entrance and seal it up, so the dragon couldn’t escape.
Then, with Crosby and Crystal by their sides, they returned to the village.
The village doctor, Dr. William K. Achard, tended to their wounds, showering them with care and affection.
The farmer, Henry MacDonald, offered them a temporary place of warmth and comfort, while the shopkeeper Hugh Alder and his wife Anastasia showered them with treats and toys.
Finally, the barkeep Archibald and the innkeeper Matilda opened their doors, ensuring Crosby and Crystal found a loving furever home.
Through courage, cunning, and the bond of unwavering friendship, Cynthia and her PugHearts team had not only saved the village but also demonstrated the power of compassion and unity.
Crosby and Crystal, once held captive by fear, now thrived in a village filled with love.
And as the winds of change swept through the village of Barkala, a new era of peace and harmony dawned, forever uniting the destinies of humans and pugs alike.
When Mama looked down, the little girl was fast asleep.
She glanced over at the two little pugs at her feet, sleeping peacefully, rose from her daughters’ bed and left the room.
****** So much of the story was true.
Crystal and Crosby have been saved, but still have a long way to go.
They were improperly cared for, never given immunizations or regular heartworm medication.
They have obviously been used to breed.
Their owner kept them outside at all times and was very resistant to giving them up, even though they appeared to be ignored and improperly cared for.
With your help, they, and many others, will have a fairytale story ending.
Very soon, with your help Dear Reader, Crosby and Crystal will have their own furever story to weave in the days and years to come.

Meet a handsome 3 yr old pug mix named Rowdy.
He is a black/brindle boy who is probably a Boston terrier/Pug mix.
He is a cool dude.
Pretty chill so far.
He was an owner surrender.
So Rowdy came to us intact and very quickly was neutered.
He has a couple of other procedures he needs done and we will be following up on another health item.
Meanwhile this handsome man who has become my shadow will fine tune his potty training, work on some basic obedience, and add a couple of pounds ; he’s a little skinny.
Rowdy seems to be fairly intelligent.
We will break out the dog treat games we have and see how he does.

Introducing foster Cash, but I'm thinking he shall be Sir Cash, as he is a regal gentleman.
This handsome fellow comes to PugHearts as an owner surrender.
Unsure of their situation or reasoning, but nothing hurts my heart more than a dog who's been in a home for it's entire life and is suddenly surrendered for no apparent reason.
What do we know about Sir Cash?
~Neutered & Heartworm Negative ~House Trained ~11 years old but does NOT act like it; great mobility, likes toys, wants to be with the people ~Completely ignores the adult cats & foster kittens ~Settles in for bedtime like a champ, no complaints ~Great with the other pugs, even my anxious, socially awkward pug mix.
~Does have dry eye (very common for pugs), but is super easy to medicate with his daily eye drops.
~Rockstar for any tongue-out photos ~Deaf - which may seem scary, but he's adjusting to my home very quickly.
Once he learns the routine he'll be fine.
Bonus, no barking at random noises or storms!
~He doesn't know it yet, but he started a diet plan the moment he entered my home.
He's over 28 pounds and should be more like 22-24.
So no people food, controlled calories and (if it ever cools off) nightly walks.
He's gonna drop that weight and have even more energy in no time.
Overall he's clearly a happy boy who was loved for many years.
It's sad that going into his golden years he has to go through the stress of leaving the only family he's known.
I truly believe there's a family out there who will love and appreciate him, and we'll keep him safe until he finds them

About 5 weeks ago this poor baby was only 12 weeks old and all he’d ever known was discomfort and fear.
He was found in horrendous condition roaming in RGV.
His skin was red all over with little pustule looking bumps that itched so bad he kept whimpering.
He was crusty and had bloody spots from scratching himself when he tried to get some relief.
After his first night here, his bedding was completely covered in skin flakes and more of his skin was peeling.
Despite being miserable, he was as sweet as could be and wanted to be close to his people or the other dogs at all times.
He was finally being cared for and he knew it.
Fast forward to now.
Leif is looking so much better after many salt water soaks and oatmeal shampoos to help combat the bacteria and speed up healing.
His hair is mostly grown in, and he loves to play.
He’s a busy little fellow who loves every person and dog he meets.
Leif will be going is ready to adopt.
You’d better get your app in soon as he will not last long.

Please Welcome Robin to PugHearts Robin is an 8 month old little guy that was surrendered to PugHearts after a freak accident left him with a broken leg.
The family surrendered him to make sure he could get the care and surgery that he needed.
It was a clean break to his femur, making repair easier and meaning it wasn’t a result of anything high impact similar to our hit by car dogs.
Robin had surgery yesterday, and as you can see from the X-rays, Dr. Hendrix did a fabulous job plating it, now we wait, hoping that the break sets like it’s suppose to.
Robin is on crate rest while callus forms around his plate.
He is the absolute best little guy.
He’s been so quiet and has not made a mess in his crate at all.
He loves attention and gets so excited for his pets during his outside time.
Other than his leg, Robin is a healthy and happy puppy, and will be searching for his forever family soon.
He will be going in for sedated X-rays and to complete his neuter and nares surgery soon.
Robin loves playing with toys and does well with his foster siblings, even if he’s not cleared to play just yet.
He will most definitely needs a lot of patience and training with his forever family.
He’s learning to be held and loved, and I know he will make an excellent addition to any family.

He is another victim of the valley.
He comes to us in pretty rough condition, but he will get everything he needs to begin his recovery thanks to PugHearts.
He has Demodex mange, he is underweight, has entropion in both eyes and dry eye.
He is on several medications to treat some parasites, but one blessing is that he is Heartworm negative.
We will start some baths to help with the itching and get him to start feeling more comfortable.
But for tonight he is resting in a soft bed.
Rigby is 4 and weighs just 14 pounds.

I am looking for my forever home.
I am about 8 years old, weighing about 16 lbs.
I’m heartworm negative and I’m ready to go.
I get along with the other pugs and love to sit next to and in my peoples lap.
So will you be my forever home?

Please give a warm PugHearts’ welcome to Scooby!
Scooby was surrendered at no fault of his own but rather because of changes in his previous home.
This handsome hunk-o-pug has nothing to give but love!
Scooby is 2 years old, is neutered, and is heartworm negative.
He is great with children, he is great with other dogs, and he absolutely loves to be loved!
He loves to sleep in late, loves to sleep in the big bed, but also crates nicely where we’re out of the house.
Scooby truly has the sweetest disposition.
It took him a couple of days to decompress, but now that’s he has settled in, he loves playing with the other dogs, he lives for belly rubs, and loves to curl up right next to you.
Oh, and he absolutely has the softest bunny-like fur!
Scooby is ready for his forever and deserves a wonderful family to call his own.
Welcome to PugHearts, Scooby, we’re so glad you’re here!

Skittles is a 3 year old, teeny tiny pug that came in from a shelter.
When I saw she was only 10 pounds I just knew she was going to be super thin and need lots of groceries.
However, that was not the case.
Skittles is just a super duper tiny pug.
She can wear the clothes I bought for my Pomeranian.
Skittles is learning her way around the house and has started to initiate play with me.
She likes to attack my hand and roll around on it.
She's very gentle and doesn't bite down.
She gets along with the rest of the fosters and there have been no issues.
She is a humper but I'm hoping after she settles in and integrates with the pack she will cease that behavior.
Skittles will be ready for adoption in the next few weeks.
She came to PH spayed and had developed an infection at the surgical site so she's on antibiotics for that.
She also has some eyes issues and will be on eye drops for maintenance.
I've had her a few days and at this time I haven't noticed that she has any vision impairment.
She will be a fantastic girl for single people, a family with young children or an older owner.
She is a little ball of energy but she spends a lot of her time on the couch just chilling.
This little sweetheart will not be available long.

Lakelyn is our newest pupper surrender.
Her owner did right by her as she simply did not have enough time to invest.
Lakelyn is just 6 months old and all that that implies.
She is the ADHD Poster Child; 100% puppy.
Think butterfly net, not puppy harness.
She is a compact 11 pounds; an ideal weight for her, currently.
Her fur is plush, shiny black.
She has very wonky knees (grade 3 luxating patellas) that in no way slow her roll.
Her spay is scheduled, and her knees will be more closely evaluated at that time.
Look for Lakelyn to be home ready late September/early October.
She will need dedication and patience in spades, but will be a wonderful lifelong companion, once she grasps some direction.
Let Erika know ASAP if Lakelyn is your kind of project, as she fits a high demand profile.
Meantime, we'll be posting her derpy doings on the socials.

Skye is a small, fawn/white female who came to PugHearts from a breeder in the Rio Grande Valley.
She has a small frame and needs some special care for her skin.
She is cautious and observant and is very submissive.
She is currently on medication to help her skin issues as well as a nutritious diet to help her gain some weight.
As time passes, she is coming out of her shell and showing her true colors.
She is intelligent, full of spunk and is starting to enjoy playing with others.
She wasn’t social at first but within a couple of days she began trying to be an accepted part of the grumble.
She is very active and has a lot of energy for play.
She loves to play “Zoom” and will zoom through the house with her foster siblings right on her tail.
She is developing the moves of a true pug athlete and is beginning to learn the rhythm and schedule of the day.
Once her hair grows back, she will be a wonderfully pretty white/fawn color.
Age: 5 Years Color: White/Fawn Weight: 11 Lbs.

Chico is about 13 weeks and was found wandering in the heat, full of fleas and with a traumatized right eye.
PugHearts immediately started treatment in hopes of saving the eye.
We do know that Chico is a happy puppy that loves to play with toys and other dogs.
This spicy boy will keep you on your toes!
He also is very smart!
He has learned to use the doggy door and hasn't had an accident in over a week now.
He loves snuggling and does well through the night in the big bed!

Finn is a 7 year old male that comes to PugHearts from the Rio Grande Valley.
He found himself in a shelter and no one came forward to claim this darling boy.
Finn is heartworm negative and being neutered soon.
He seems to understand house manners and gets along with the other pugs in his foster home.
He seems to prefer people to other pugs.
He does have some vision loss due to untreated dry eye and will be on eye drops daily for life.

Mia is another street stray found covered in fleas, way underweight, and seemingly already bred at the innocent age of just 10 months old.
She is a taller, leggy blonde with a brilliant dark black mask.
One ear is to the side, and the other likes to flop forward above her left eye, which only adds to the adorable.
It's clear Mia has not had a lot of interaction with humans or other dogs, but is sweet to all, and adapting well.
She sleeps quietly crated and we're working on enticing her into eating full meals when served.
She is catlike in manner and appearance, so perhaps does not know pugs do not free feed.
Mia will be ready in a few weeks after she is spayed.
Meantime, she'll be loved here, and learning to embrace consistency and security.

Introducing Foster Cygnet.
She's 4 years old from the Valley area.
She was surrendered but, in Cygnet's case, that was a great thing.
She was part of a puppy mill.
She is spayed, learning to play with toys, the grumble, and loving hooves.
She will do well with other dogs in the house or if you work from home for she will get a little anxious if she thinks she's alone.
She does have cutest little howl.
She loves to snuggle and sleep besides you.
She's a keeper.
She uses the doggy door to go potty outside and not afraid of the thunder and lightening.

Foster Tesni is super petite, very docile, and still learning that people are ok. She definitely needs a few days to decompress and get more comfortable in her new surroundings.
She got spayed already so no more puppies for this girl.
She is sadly heartworm positive so she won’t be ready for a little bit, but I can’t wait to see her flourish now that she’s going to be enjoying the good life.

This beautiful little girl is Helia.
She is 3 years old and one of the sweetest girls I've had in some time.
She was not excited when she first met the grumble at my house.
For the first few days she spent a lot of time behind the couch but I knew she was going to come around.
Three days in I looked down and she had her paws on my leg wanting to be picked up.
She is extremely gentle and sweet.
She is still a little timid but she's not scared so that may be part of her personality.
Helia loves to be held.
She will sit with her back in my arm for as long as I stay still and watch tv and the other dogs.
Sadly she is heartworm positive, so it will be at least the end of the year before she is ready to be adopted.
This sweet girl will not be looking for her new family long.

Foster Addie is about three years old and such a good girl.
She is potty and crate trained with no accidents in the house so far.
Addie is a sweetheart.
She likes to play with toys and the two young puppies.
She will play chase with them and let them puppy pile on her.
She is also very calm.
Addie would make a great only dog or would do fine with other dogs.
Addie is a velcro girl who also enjoys hanging on the sofa with her humans.
Her tail never stops wagging.
She loves attention and praise.
Addie is heart worm negative and already spayed.
She does have some skin issues from allergies but seems to be getting better each day.
She also has dry eyes and will need eye drops daily for the rest of her life.
Addie will be a great addition to any family.

Introducing foster Irene.
This girl is estimated 6 years old and is 16 pounds of sweetness.
Unfortunately she seems to have had a rough / neglectful life thus far.
While we don't know her back story, she's obviously had several litters.
Given that she is middle age and just showed up randomly on the streets, it's probably a safe bet that she was discarded by a backyard breeder once she was no longer able to bear enough/healthy puppies.
This poor girl went from a home (we assume), to the streets, and is now in her 4th home, all in under 2 weeks.
She's understandably a little unnerved and just has a bit of nervousness/inability to settle.
I'm honestly impressed she isn't more scared, she's clearly a very resilient girl.
She will eventually settle (especially on the bed with you) and be all snuggled up next to your leg or arm.
She also loves anything that squeaks, but ESPECIALLY ball toys.
She seems house trained, no accidents the 6 days I had her, ignores the cats, accepts attention from anyone (even those smaller humans)!
Going back to her life of neglect, from her intake we learned that she is thankfully heartworm negative.
But she will need the following procedures; - Spay - Dental cleaning (her breath is horrendously impressive, my husband first thought it was bad gas, rather than her mouth) - Nares repair (to enlarge her nasal openings to help her breath better) - Soft palate resection (removing a small piece of her soft palate to open up her airway and help her breath better) - Removal of a (presumed) benign skin tag on a back leg Given that she needs so much corrected, this will be done over the course of two months with two separate sedations.
By the time she is medically ready for a home, I have no doubt she'll also be in a much better place emotionally.
Just another example of how PugHearts goes above and beyond for it's dogs.
I'm so proud to be part of this organization.
Stay tuned for her progress, and as always, anything you can give to help with the medical care of the 180 dogs currently in their care is greatly appreciated.
100% of donations go to the dogs, always. You're safe now sweet girl, and the road only gets better from here

Say Hi to Bilbo Bilbo is so beautiful and full of life.
He’s healthy, so very happy, and ready to find his forever family!
Bilbo is 2 years old.
He recently had his neuter nares and palate surgeries!
Can you believe this gorgeous guy was found running the streets?
After searching for his family, the finder surrendered him over to PugHearts to get the care he needs.
He’s been a PugHearts dog for almost a month.
He LOVES other dogs, and is hoping to find a very active family to match his energy.
At 2 years old, Bilbo was wandering all alone and no one was searching for him, which sucks, but that is why PugHearts is here!
He is learning boundaries, love and training, but wants to please his people so bad which makes it easy!
Despite all of this, Bilbo’s belly band has been clean since arriving and he’s been playing so well with his foster siblings.
He is seriously having a blast!
Someone is going to be very lucky to have this beautiful guy as their own!

Selene the Dream!
Actually, her name means “moon”, but she’s absolutely the most perfect dog that I think I must be dreaming at times.
The ancient origins of the name “Selene” uses the adjectives calm and soothing…and that absolutely describes this pint-sized, 13 pound, 3 ½ year old, silver-colored Pug.
Selene was, unfortunately, solely used to breed; she spent her entire life outside without the care she deserved.
She is heartworm positive but is receiving treatment.
Even though Selene never knew the comfort of an air-conditioned house, nor a soft bed, nor a human’s lap, she has somehow mastered being the cuddliest dog on the planet.
Selene will lay in her cozy bed when a lap is not available, but if there is an open human body, she is right on top of it.
Selene also has perfect house manners!
She enjoys going for walks and being around dogs of all sizes, even though she doesn’t necessarily need them around in order to be happy.
She is perfectly content just being a cute piece of Velcro to humans.
Out of all the foster dogs I’ve had of various breeds and sizes, Selene is truly the easiest.
She is a joy to be around, as she is calm, affectionate…and remember, I did say potty-trained—hallelujah!
If I could manifest the perfect home for her, it would be as a resident at a nursing home because her sole desire is to sit on laps and be loved; however, I can also see her perfectly content to be dressed up in cute clothes by a responsible older child who wants a loyal best friend.

Introducing the newest member of the PugHearts family, little baby Jimmy!
Jimmy's journey to us is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
He came to us from a situation where his previous owners were moving and decided to surrender him along with the rest of his family.
What's truly incredible about Jimmy is that they almost didn't want to surrender him because they saw him as "defective."
But here at PugHearts, we see Jimmy as anything but defective!
We see a special pug with unique qualities, and we are thrilled to have him in our care.
Our mission is to give every pug a chance at a happy and loving life, no matter their circumstances.
We are unsure of what the future holds for little Jimmy.
X-rays show severe lateral deviation of thoracic spine consistent with scoliosis.
Jimmy is only 16 weeks and growing so his future is not certain right now.
But what is certain is that he is now in the best hands possible.
Please enjoy his cute wonky sway.
He’s a little drifter and having fun playing with the “E” babies.

Would you just look at Minnie's eyes?
They are the reason she is my foster, my heart melted the minute I saw her picture.
Minnie is 2 years old and weighs 14 pounds.
She is so sweet!
She isn't big on being held in my arms or on my lap but she likes to be next to me on the couch.
I've only had her two days but I can see that she wants very badly to be held so I think it will just take time for her to learn.
Minnie gets along great with the other fosters.
At first I thought she may be on the alpha side but after being around her more I don't think she is.
She loves to sit on the couch and nap.
It will take several weeks before her personality begins to shine.
Right now she looks kind of sad.
She will not be available for adoption until the end of the year due to being heartworm positive.
I'm super excited to see how she blossoms in the coming months.
